The Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, inaugurated on October 11, 2013, is a significant infrastructure development in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Spanning approximately 11.8 kilometers, it connects Gulistan to Jatrabarhi, aiming to alleviate the chronic traffic congestion that plagues the capital. This four-lane elevated flyover is designed to facilitate smoother vehicular movement, particularly for traffic coming from the southern and southwestern districts of Bangladesh.
The flyover has a total of eight entry and exit ramps, strategically located at major junctions to ensure efficient traffic flow. Specifically, there are six entry points and seven exit points that facilitate the inflow and outflow of vehicles, minimizing delays and congestion. This design is crucial for managing the high traffic volume typical of Dhaka.
The flyover operates on a toll system, with rates varying based on vehicle type. The toll rates are as follows:
Vehicle Type | Toll Rate (BDT. ) |
---|---|
Trailers | 200 |
Trucks | 150 |
Buses | 150 |
Minibuses | 100 |
Pickups | 75 |
Microbuses | 50 |
Jeeps | 40 |
Private Cars | 35 |
Pedestrians can cross the flyover without any toll charges. The toll collection is managed by Orion Group, which employs a mix of cash and electronic payment options, including prepaid smart cards and RFID tags, ensuring a seamless experience for users. A portion of the daily toll revenue is allocated to the Dhaka City Corporation, which will take over the flyover's management after a 24-year period.
